It has taken more than 18 months, but Casting Bones is finally finished. This book represents countless hours of work from everyone involved, and at least for my part, they have been a pleasure. I speak on behalf of the entire team when I say thank you for being here, reading this, and showing your interest and support.

Casting Bones is an independent graphic novel, freshly published, and hot off the press. Set in a world of bleak fantasy, it tells the story of a young boy growing to manhood in a life dictated by the wills of others. As the boy ages, the art evolves to reflect his growing understanding of the world around him.

This project started in February of 2012, when it struck me that a personal dream had finally slipped within my reach. I was 26, working my first salaried job, and I realized that with the small amount of money I had saved, I finally had the resources to write, commission, and publish my own graphic novel.

Let’s be honest: I was working with a shoestring budget, and other than a lifelong passion for storytelling and comic books, I did not really know what I was doing. The task seemed at once within reach and a million miles away.

And now, more than a year later, I sit down to tell you how it began. How can I tell you how much hard work, patience, and love has been put into this book? What started as a couple of sentences jotted in a notebook has grown into more than a hundred pages. What was once “my” story has been interpreted and made beautiful by four incredibly talented collaborators – artist who have each brought their own distinct feeling to the pages. Although I have guided this project to end, it would not have been possible without the help of so many people. My deepest gratitude goes out to Jordan, Kevin, Nate, Lucas, my patient fiance, Stan Yan, the DEAD Academy, and the Denver Art community.
